It's P.A.W!

By Blog No Comments

We know that pet owners appreciate their furry family members very much and give them lots of attention when they ask for it. June 7 however, marked the start of Pet Appreciation Week and we would like to challenge you to spend a few extra minutes each day with your pet doing things that they will super appreciate! This time of year you could easily spend 5-10 minutes brushing your dog or cat.  Take your dog for an extra walk or take your cat outside on a leash so it can explore the yard that it has been admiring from…

Thank you "Strike"

By Blog, Pet Memorial 2 Comments

“Strike” was the second City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service dog that has had veterinary care provided by the Kawartha Animal Hospital in both active service and retirement.  It has been and continues to be an honor to provide this service  to our police and our community.  Through the years, I Dr. Rick Oliver and the team of Kawartha Animal Hospital had the privilege to get to know this exceptional canine and his handler, constable Mike Stratford.  We looked forward to their appointments and we got as many treats from them as “Strike” would get from us when they came for their veterinary visits.  “Strike”…

Pet Disaster Preparedness

The second big “Thank you” is for voting us your favorite veterinarian in the Kawartha Lakes Readers Choice awards.  It is wonderful to have our hospital and team recognized in this way.  We work very…

Our Beloved Molly

By Blog No Comments

Our Beloved Molly (Jan 10 2004 – Jan 18 2015) Saying good bye never gets any easier.   Owning a veterinarian hospital we help families say goodbye to their four legged family members all too often.  Some might think that it helps us to develop a “thick skin”, but it is quite the opposite.  For us in the veterinary profession, it makes us realize how precious and short life is.  We see firsthand how beautiful and strong the bond can be between pets and their families.   Rick and I found out last Thursday (although we already “knew”) that our beloved…

Dogs and Cats are Super Heros too!

By Blog No Comments

When Dr. Bond heard that the Lindsay Chamber of Commerce organized an annual Santa Claus Parade she campaigned for Kawartha Animal Hospital to participate.  For just a few seconds we scratched our heads wondering how we could produce a float that was appropriate to this year’s theme.  A few seconds was all that it took for the brainstorming to kick into high gear about all of the “super hero” things that our four legged friends do on a daily basis.  Animals are used in a variety of ways to serve and protect us.  Dogs are used for therapy, canine police units, guide…
