Mackenzie Smith
Veterinary Technician
Mackenzie recently joined our team, but hasn’t supplied us with any biographical tidbits yet, so for now, we will have to use our imaginations…
Was she raised by a pack of coyotes in the Mojave desert? Was she raised in a family of 14 children in the Austrian Alps? Was she part of a family singing group, performing at local fairs throughout Ontario? We may never know…
What we do know is that Mackenzie recently moved back to Ontario, after living in British Columbia for awhile, and is a recent graduate of Seneca College’s RVT program, and we’re super happy to have her on the team!
Stay tuned for the rest!

Therese Fischer
Lead Client Services Representative
Therese has only had brief moments in her life without a pet. She has welcomed home many critters over the years, including hedgehogs, guinea pigs, birds, and of course, dogs and cats.
After many years in the corporate world, Therese decided to take some time off, and to fill the gap she started to volunteer at the HSKL where she fell in love with the pet care industry, and never looked back! She loves working with both pets and people, and Customer Relations is the best of both worlds.
Therese lives with her husband and an assortment of pets!
Lynne Florence
Client Services Representative
We are so happy to have Lynne join the Kawartha Animal Hospital team. Many of you may recognize her as she spent many tireless years working more than full time at the Humane Society. As far back as Lynne can remember she has always had a passion for helping animals. Lynne admits that she is shy, but it is this quiet demeanor that makes her so good with pets. Lynne lives on 100 acres in Kirkfield with her husband Dave. Her three children are all grown up and the only ones left at home are the four legged kind.
Shannon Stewart-Brassard
Client Services Representative
Originally hailing from New Brunswick, Shannon moved to the Kawartha Lakes from Brooklin in 2013, with her husband Mike and their three children in tow. Her family has been home to several animals through the years, including one cat, five dogs, two guinea pigs, a hedgehog and one garter snake. She currently has two wonderful dogs, named Belle and Dixie.
Shannon’s love of animals began at a very young age. She brought home every stray animal she found, and her family was on a first-name basis with the local animal shelter. She began her working career by volunteering at that shelter, and she has worked in the animal welfare industry on and off ever since! Her continued love and passion for animals is what brought Shannon to her current career with Kawartha Animal Hospital, in hopes of caring for those who cannot advocate for themselves: your beloved pets! Shannon feels proud and honoured to be a part of this incredible group of animal lovers, and we’re so glad to have her!
In her free time, Shannon enjoys fishing, boating, bonfires, nature walks with dogs, and spending time with family and friends, especially when her two oldest adult children come home to visit.
