“Strike” was the second City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service dog that has had veterinary care provided by the Kawartha Animal Hospital in both active service and retirement. It has been and continues to be an honor to provide this service to our police and our community. Through the years, I Dr. Rick Oliver and the team of Kawartha Animal Hospital had the privilege to get to know this exceptional canine and his handler, constable Mike Stratford. We looked forward to their appointments and we got as many treats from them as “Strike” would get from us when they came for their veterinary visits. “Strike” was many things. He excelled at his police service job. He helped to keep our community safe as he accompanied Mike on his rounds. He could switch roles very quickly and go from chasing a criminal to being a community ambassador for the police. He was also a great family pet in his retirement. Our thoughts are with Mike and his family as well as the City of Kawartha Lakes police. It was a pleasure to know you “Strike”. The team at KAH will miss you.
Sorry to read of Strike’s passing.
He was a wonderful addition to the community.
My deepest and most profound sympathy to Strike’s family and co-workers.
Thank you for your service. Fly fast and free across the meadows beyond time now.
