May is full of events that Kawartha Animal Hospital wants our animal loving community to be aware of. We have mentioned most of these events on an individual basis previously, but thought that it would be good to remind you all of them again.
Already highlighted in our “In the News” May 7-13 is Be Kind to Animals Week. This week is also Emergency Preparedness Week as noted in the City of Kawartha Lakes Waste Collection Calendar. May 13 is National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. It isn’t hard to imagine a scenario where one might find their family in an emergency situation after the number of areas that experienced flooding this past week. Remember to have a plan in place for your family pets as well as a 3-5 day supply of food, water, medications and if possible cat litter along with the box. The whole month of May is Microchip Awareness. This is another very effective way to be sure that in the case of an emergency your loved one will find his/her way back home after the emergency is over.
And lastly, on a much happier celebration in May, we would like to wish all the mothers out there a very happy and restful Mother’s Day! We know there is some debate about pet owners celebrating Mother’s Day but hey, we think it’s important. While we know that motherhood to a human is all consuming for the early years, we want to recognize that there are wonderful doting “Pet mothers” as well!
