What a busy month!

By Blog No Comments

October is an eventful month for the team at Kawartha Animal Hospital.  Besides celebrating Thanksgiving and Halloween we also celebrate our fantastic RVT’s (registered veterinary technicians), Animal Health Week (October 1-7) and once again are fundraising for the Farley Foundation. The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association’s theme for Animal Health Week 2017 is protect the five animal freedoms.  These five freedoms being; adequate shelter, appropriate veterinary care, proper nutrition, ensuring proper socialization and allowing animals to exhibit normal behaviour.  Our knowledge and access to knowledge about these five freedoms has greatly enhanced the animal/human bond. It is because of this bond between humans…

Goodbye Summer holidays…

By Blog No Comments

Wow, where did the summer go?  How can it be the last week of August and the last week before school starts?  It has been a whirlwind here at Kawartha Animal Hospital. Since June 19, we have been missing a staff member every week because of staff vacations, health issues and the sudden loss of Dr. Rick’s father in July.  Dr. Rick and I would like to thank the team at Kawartha Animal Hospital for doing a great job and then some during a very stressful period and we want to thank all of our wonderful clients for being patient…

Goodbye (again) Shannon!

By Blog One Comment

Today is a little bit sad as we say goodbye to Shannon Florence.  She has been one of the most bubbly client service staff members we have ever had the pleasure of working with.  As you may already know Shannon started full time with us in August 2013 and left in January 2016 to go back to college to obtain her ECE certificate.  Much to our pleasure Shannon helped us out on a part time basis working weekends since last fall.  Because of her fantastic personality it should come as no surprise that she has already found full time employment…

Happy Mother's Day!

By Blog No Comments

May is full of events that Kawartha Animal Hospital wants our animal loving community to be aware of. We have mentioned most of these events on an individual basis previously, but thought that it would be good to remind you all of them again. Already highlighted in our “In the News” May 7-13 is Be Kind to Animals Week.  This week is also Emergency Preparedness Week as noted in the City of Kawartha Lakes Waste Collection Calendar.  May 13 is National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day. It isn’t hard to imagine a scenario where one might find their family in an emergency…

Spring has sprung…we hope!

By Blog No Comments

Fingers crossed… the snow we woke up to last Friday morning is going to be the last that we experience until mid December!  As much as we all enjoy a white holiday season we also enjoy a green Easter, especially when it is in April. Spring is a time of year when we are busting at the seams to get outside and start the beautification of our yards and for some of us our own bodies as well as our pets.  We tend to hibernate for various reasons indoors while the plant life sleeps under the snow. As your family…

We want to remind you that we will not be open for our…

Everyone has back to school blues!

By Blog No Comments

It is back to school time in the Kawartha Lakes and for many this is an exciting fun time, but for others it can be stressful to say the least.  Our furry family members can experience a slurry of emotions as well because the house is now empty for the better part of the day.  Some older pets may seem to enjoy the peace and quiet, but younger more social pets may become quite lonely.  Kawartha Animal Hospital has a few tips for you to try to keep the separation anxiety to a minimum for your pet. The routine will change, but…
